Board of Directors

MEET THE BOARD

Asher (She/her)

Board Chair, TransCamp

Asher, after a 10+ year career as an engineer in automation and manufacturing, has switched focus to how she can help, support, and grow her community. She is excited to work for TransCamp making access to outdoor spaces easier and safer for trans folks.

In her career, she had a reputation for having a strong technical background while leading and managing complex projects. Asher is ready to adapt her planning and organizational skills for TransCamp. At her last company she co-led the LGBTQ+ ERG and has volunteered with various queer and trans organizations in the bay area (along with fostering a few dogs along the way).

Asher is originally from the Bay Area, but after several years of moving around – going from LA to NYC, briefly back to Oakland, then to Stockholm for a couple years – she’s come back for good. She’s settled in San Francisco with her wife and her cat. Asher realized she feels at home here and does not need to go looking for a new community – there is plenty here to connect with, support, and grow.

In her free time she enjoys spending as much time with her cat as possible, working on her garden, hiking and camping, and pole dancing.

Chase (He/him)

Vice-Chair, TransCamp

Chase thrives in dynamic environments where he can put his finely tuned strategic planning focus into action. He’s passionate about pursuing a life worth living and making that pursuit more accessible for those relegated to the margins of society.
He’s currently managing grants and institutional funding at an organization that provides refugee resettlement services, micro-lending, and pro bono immigration legal services to the Greater Sacramento area. Prior to that, he managed a sexual violence prevention and education program at a rape crisis center.

After earning his Master of Arts in Education and Human Development, Chase escaped the beautiful but landlocked Rocky Mountain views of Denver, CO, in search of something a little closer to water and a lot more diverse. He’s called Sacramento home since 2019.

Chase likes to describe himself as a dope, and definitely goofy, Black Trans Masc person living in Sacramento with two of the best cats a guy could ask for. Downtime isn’t something Chase suffers patiently, so he fills his days with simple joys: playing basketball, sitting in the sunshine, singing with the Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus, or laughing with his family.

Lo (He/him)

Board Treasurer, TransCamp

Lo Birdee resides in San Leandro, California with his spouse and two dogs. Lo is 37 years old and has interests in mythology, paleontology, literature and the Harry Potter series.

Lo has 15 years of experience in the education sector, specializing in special needs education. He has taught special needs students and spearheaded full inclusion programs in various Bay Area school districts. Currently, Lo is a Program Coordinator for Special Education within a school district.

Lo has been involved with TransCamp since 2022 and has been helping with camp logistics, including transportation and other background support. Lo is excited to begin his new role within TransCamp as the Board Treasurer and take TransCamp to new heights!

Kim (They/them)

Board Secretary, TransCamp

Kim Arezalez is a dedicated legal advocate with a decade of nonprofit experience, specializing in trauma-informed advocacy for immigrants, LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, and survivors of violence.

Their passion for community work began early—at 17; they delivered a TED Talk on how success is rooted in giving back. Since then, they have contributed to local, state, and national human rights campaigns, including efforts to advance immigrant rights. They have led bilingual workshops on tenant rights and organized to address homelessness among low-income and undocumented students in California’s Central Valley.

Internationally, they worked on human rights initiatives in Argentina focused on eradicating child labor and preventing violence against children. Kim has also spoken at major conferences and community events, sharing the stage with world-renowned activists, including at WE Day in 2018.

In their free time, Kim enjoys swimming in lakes, reading fictional queer literature, and volunteering with grassroots organizations in Sacramento to provide legal support for the undocumented community. As a board member, they are excited to bring their expertise in community building, fundraising, and program development to TransCamp, helping create spaces where trans adults can celebrate trans joy, connect with nature, and thrive together.

Nova (It/He/She/They)

Board Member, TransCamp

Nova is a proud member of the trans community. Raised in rural California, they have a strong appreciation for spending time with the community outdoors. TransCamp has fostered a beautiful space for them to do so, allowing creative and grounding spaces for everyone.

As a disabled person, Nova is happy to focus their work on creating more accessible spaces for disabled people. Disabled people are but just a few amongst those who haven’t had access to outdoor spaces in such a way and it brings him great joy to know that can be changed.

From the start of their journey patterning up with non-profits that have had a sole focus on providing more accessible resources to LGBTQ+ people. As a board member Nova is excited to focus on community building amongst other trans people in creative and innovative ways. They’re looking forward to building meaningful partnerships with other artists and creatives as well as having a strong focus on fundraising to expand our community’s resources.
